Public Storytelling Dinners at Charlie & Gerald’s Town Treasure

Public JoburgPlaces Storytelling Dinners,
hosted at Charlie & Gerald’s Town Treasure

A Public JoburgPlaces Storytelling Dinner is simply one of the most exceptional experiences on offer in Johannesburg. Hosted at the incredible Charlie & Gerald’s Town Treasure – a historic, erstwhile bank vault in the heart of Old Joburg Town, it makes for a mesmerizing night of intriguing stories and delectable cuisine.

For a public storytelling dinner, guests are seated in different private dining rooms for the meal courses, while the storytelling takes place in a separate room between meal courses with all the guests together. A maximum of 30 guests are booked for each storytelling dinner.

Storytelling is presented by Charlie Moyo while the food is prepared by the excellent culinary team of Charlie & Gerald’s Town Treasure. Themes alternate between the Migrant Cuisine Storytelling Dinner and the 7-Phases of Joburg Storytelling Dinner.

For the 7-Phases of Joburg Storytelling Dinner guests can enjoy the Abundant Feast Menus and storytelling for R725 per person, or the Lite Feast Menus and storytelling for R475 per person.

The Migrant Cuisine Storytelling Dinner involves the history and stories of the migrant communities of our city and the foods they have brought to the city. It is a casual but exciting eating experience with six delectable migrant-inspired dishes at R725 per person.

A booking is only secured by full prepayment for both storytelling and menu. Drinks are ordered and paid for on the night.

Apart from the astonishing history of the city, storytelling dinners always also dwell on the incredible history of the venue with its 1000 safety deposit boxes of which 940 remain locked since 1978!

Private storytelling dinners can be booked for any other night. Click on the relevant tab on this page for more info.
