Charlie & Gerald’s Town Treasure

Charlie & Gerald’s Town Treasure is a remarkable venue situated in a historic bank vault, built in 1904. Originally part of the United Building Society (later United Bank), the space operated as a private vault from 1930 – 1978, before it closed due to a massive bank robbery. The space with its intricate Edwardian tiles stood vacant for 40 years, till the team of JoburgPlaces refurbished the space in 2018, into what has become know as Charlie & Gerald’s Town Treasure.

Set up as a bar, restaurant, and function space, it is only available for private bookings. The venue boasts a series of interleading rooms and vault booths, some complete with safety deposit boxes, making for the most unique and memorable events.

Of course, JoburgPlaces is also famous for the many storytelling dinners it has already hosted here. A storytelling lunch or dinner could just be what you are looking for, for the perfect birthday event or corporate get together.

The entire venue can host 190 people cocktail style, but the event is best suited for seated service in a series of rooms of up to 100 guests. The front room can accommodate 50 guests at table seating or 60 cinema style.

BOOKING A PRIVATE PARTY, DINNER OR EVENT
Charlie & Gerald’s Town Treasure
is available 7-days a week, whether you have a large private function, a birthday party, or a smaller, intimate private lunch or dinner in mind.

For smaller groups, we offer the option to book a private room or combination of rooms, while we may host other groups in other rooms at the same time. For larger groups, the entire venue can be booked privately.

NO VENUE HIRE!
We charge no venue hire if you want to host a dinner or party. Our only requirement is a minimum spend on food of R5000 and drinks above that. Depending on your number of guests you can book the entire venue or just part of the venue while we can host another party in another section of the venue.

Charlie & Gerald’s Town Treasure can accommodate up to 100 guests, seated at tables, restaurant style, in a series of rooms. It can accommodate up to 190 guests for a cocktail function if all the interleading rooms are used.

The most guests we can accommodate in the same room is 50, in the case of the front restaurant/bar section.


The Front Room & Bar (pictured above), can seat up to 50 people at tables and 60 cinema style.

The Long Vault Room  (pictured above) is perfect for a long-table lunch or dinner of up to 30 guests. It also makes an awesome party and mingling space.

The two vault booths can each seat up to 8 guests.

The Archway Room ( pictured above) can seat up to 18 people at one large table or 24 people at 4 separate tables of 6 each.

AFFORDABLE PARTY OPTION:
If you are hosting a birthday party for 35 or more guests, we can offer you an irresistible proposition, that will not break the bank and give you the most exceptional and exclusive party experience.

Spend R5000 on welcome snacks for your guests as per the menu below. Guests can then order and pay for their own drinks from the bar, while we can also offer a limited ala carte menu for guests’ own accounts for those who want to order additional food.

LITE CANAPE MENU:
Ideally served as a harvest table from which guests help themselves. Can also be served on trays by waiters. The following menu at R225 per person is for 25 guests but can be adapted for any number of guests.
